Pastel Bears in a Train - Baby Panel

A green and white grid pattern with geometrical tabs of red, yellow, blue and green pastel colors start the outside border of this adorable panel. A lighter blue and green line encases the repeated geometrical tabs to make up the inner border and train track. Three alternating green and white grid patterns make the clouds that highlight soft hues of color of the train traveling down a green and white stripped countryside. The first bear with a green bowtie leads the way in the engine and the other two bears follow in the adjoining cars. Build a Quilt Materials You Need: Quilt panels from LKG Quilts 1 1/8 yards of coordinating fabric 1 craft size batting (46” x36”) 1 spool of quilting thread 1 package of safety pins 1 package of straight pins Marking pens (I use chalk or washable crayons) All of the items you need can be purchased at your local Wal-Mart or craft store . How To Guide 1) Layout your quilt panel face up and draw your quilt pattern on the panel with a washable marker. This can be stars, hearts, teddy bear or just a grid pattern. You can do anything you want; but I suggest you keep it simple. 2) Making a sandwich and a quilt are similar. Lay your fabric backing face down on a flat surface. Top this layer with your batting. Now you’re ready for the top layer which is the quilt panel you have purchased from LKG Quilts. 3) To make your quilting easier I pin the layers together using safety pins. You may use straight pins, but look out they stick you! Start in the center of your quilt panel. Allow approximately four inches between pins. I usually pin in a circle design but you can pin around your pattern. 4) Now you’re ready to quilt. Quilting may be done by hand stitching, machine stitching or tying. 5) When the Quilting is done you’re ready to add the binding. I cut my fabric into two and one half inch strips. Your strips need to be sewed together to make a continuous strip. Multiply (length x width x 2) and this is how long your strips need to be. Fold strip in half and press to make a fold. Now your binding will be one and a quarter inches wide. Pin the raw edges (open sides) of the binding to the top edge of your quilt. Start in the middle and sew a quarter inch seam till you get one half inch from the corner. Leave your needle down and lift pressure foot up. This allows you to turn your quilt. 6) Pull the corner to a triangle and continue sewing across and around the quilt edge. When you reached your starting point cut the binding two inches longer. Tuck half an inch inside and continue sewing across your starting point. 7) Remove from machine, fold binding over the quilt edge and pin along the seam line. Your binding is completed with hand stitching.
